Casio MTP-B195

Once in a blue moon, you’re mindlessly scrolling, minding your own business, when your heart skips a beat. When this happens to me, it usually means that Casio have released a new model. And let us be honest: many of their releases seem irrelevant, but this MTP-B195 is the complete opposite. A square case shape, a stunning textured dial, and a rock solid quartz movement. It already seems like a home run. Keep reading to see if it actually is.

DESIGN

This is a good looking watch. Without further comparison, I think it looks better than the watch it might be loosely based on, the Patek Cubitus. Where the Cubitus borders on being gaudy, oversized and somewhat tacky, this Casio is smaller and less protruding.

With a case width of 38mm, you will be able to wear this watch on most wrists. It works beautifully on my 19cm wrists, but can easily be worn on smaller wrists as well. The case is slim at 8,3mm and the lug to lug distance is 46,5mm.

The dial has a stunning vertical brushing, adding lots of interest to the design. The hands are large and legible, while the date at three o’clock is a nice addition. As always, they have written the water resistance rating at six o’clock.I wish they didn’t.

I am happy that Casio are making more of these modern designs. Where they previously have had a tendency to prefer more classic vintage-inspired watches.

STRAP/BRACELET

You can get the MTP-B195 on either a leather strap or a bracelet. Due to the nature of the integrated design, you are stuck with what Casio provides you. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that what you get is of decent quality.

The leather strap is soft and supple while giving the impression that it can last a good while. It comes with a simple buckle, decorated by the Casio logo.

The bracelet is about what you’d expect from a Casio at this price. It’s not fantastic in any stretch of the word. The links are folded from thin stainless steel and you will experience a good amount of hair pulling. But the bracelet looks very good, so perhaps it’s worth it? You get polished center links and a nice taper towards the clasp.

BUILD QUALITY

If you have owned another watch from the Casio MTP line, you know exactly what you’re going to get here. While the case finishing leaves quite a bit to be desired, you really can’t complain when this thing costs $70. You won't get the sharpest edges or the most beautiful brushing. You do, however, get a watch where your money goes where they are most needed; the design, the reliability, and the coolness,

CONCLUSION

With a rock solid quartz movement, Casios best design in a long while, and a price well below $100, you really can’t go wrong with this absolute beauty from the MTP line up.
