The Eternal Earth

Some watches are more difficult to review than others. That could come down to a divisive design, strange specifications, or straight up disappointments. My latest addition from Chinese brand Wishdoit falls in the latter category. While it offers some very nice touches, it ends up being a watch I couldn't recommend to anyone. I will move quickly through the standard review, and get to the point.

The Eternal Earth by Wishdoit

It sure is a good looking watch

Design

The Eternal Earth is a worldtimer style with a 24 hour disc around the perimeter of the dial, accompanied by cities and countries around the rehaut. The main portion of the dial consists of a world map centered on The Arctic. I think it looks good. Add in an elaborate case design, you wouldn't go unnoticed with this 43mm beast on your wrist.

Just a tiny bit of AP over this case, perhaps?

Strap

The supplied textile strap looks good and feels good. It is supple and pliable, it even feels like it could hold up to a bit of abuse.

Seiko NH34 movement

Movement

As the 24 hour disc would suggest, The Eternal Earth is powered by a Seiko NH34 movement. The right choice for a watch like this.

Well, what is wrong?

It just doesn't work. Right out of the box, The Eternal Earth showed signs of misbehaviour. I am not able to adjust the 24 hour disk or the date using the crown. The disk doesn't even follow the regular handset around when I spin the crown on the second position. Clearly, something has gone wrong. I sent a message to Wishdoit, expecting a speedy solution to the issue, as I always expect when there is something wrong with my watches. Perhaps even more so when I am supposed to write a review and broadcast it to my readers. The solution I was offered? Well, this is what Wishdoit answered:

I'm sorry that our brand does not have a service center in your area.

Before we ship the watch, it has been strictly inspected, and the watch is most affected by logistics during transportation.

While things COULD happen during transportation, the watch was very well packaged. I have my doubts that this is purely a transport-issue. But now for the worst part.

I would like to ask if you have any friends who can repair watches?

I don`t. I also don`t think you should be required to have watchmaker-friends just to “safely” buy a watch from Wishdoit. Thus, I find it hard to recommend this timepiece to anyone, especially those living far away from a service center. No matter how good the watch looks, I need to know that someone will help me out when/if it stops working.

To sum it up
The Eternal Earth is a cool looking watch. It is definitely special, and it feels like decent quality. If you're willing to take the risk of receiving “damaged goods” without the chance of getting it fixed, go ahead!

Thank you to WishDoit for sending me this watch for a review. They also sent another watch, and a much more positive review of that one will be posted shortly.
